EOS R5 – Canon confirmed more specs, short of making it officially official

And here we go again, Canon has been playing hard to catch. While we are still sleeping in this part of the world last night, Canon has unveiled more ingredients that make the EOS R5 ticks.

Following its first teaser announcement back on Valentines’s Day this year leaving some speculation space about the rest of its specs that will make the EOS R5 greater, today, Canon has confirmed more details officially but it’s still not a full official launch just yet. Perhaps they are still some killer specs under wrapped?

Long story short, these are what Canon has unveiled officially for the Canon EOS R5, mostly related to the video capabilities:-

  • 8K RAWnon-cropped, internal recording up to 29.97fps
  • Non-cropped, internal recording 8K video capture – up to 29.97fps in 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log (H.265) or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265)
  • Non-cropped internal recording 4K video capture – up to 119.88fps in 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log (H.265) or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265)
  • 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ output via HDMI at 4K 59.94fps
  • Dual Pixel AF is available in all video modes at all resolutions and frame rates
  • 5 axis optical IBIS/ enabling Lens IS and camera IBIS to be combined
  • Dual card slots – 1x CFexpress and 1x SD UHS-II

According to Canon’s press statement, “Today’s update confirms the incredible recording capabilities of the EOS R5 including internal 8K RAW up to 29.97fps and suitability with high-end production workflows..” The EOS R5 boasts features seen only in high-end cinema cameras many times its price point and video features no other mirrorless camera on the market offers as of today.

There is no mention about the camera sensor resolution for still photos features related to photography and also the duration of recording 8K or 4K at 120P, we shall wait and see if the next wave of the announcement.

Expect more information to be revealed soon, probably after the current pandemic to come under control and when business activities are back to normal, let’s hope for June. You could contact Canon Malaysia for more information.
