The EOS R6 is a watered-down version of the R5 with almost everything it has, minus the 8K and some other hardware features.

If you are drooling over the EOS R5 announced the same time, there is another option for you, the EOS R6 – minus the 8K and some hardware features, everything else is almost identical to EOS R5, we think the R6 is dubbed as the mini R5. Let’s take a quick tour of the EOS R6.

RESOLUTION
Equipped with a full-size CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of approximately 20MP, which is customized based on the sensor equipped with EOS 1DX Mark III
VIDEO
4K/60P video and Full HD at 120P high frame rate for smooth slow motion. Equipped with Canon’s original Log-Gamma “Canon Log”, which has a proven track record in video production equipment “CINEMA EOS SYSTEM”. When shooting 4K or Full HD, smooth AF with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is possible.

STABILISER
The first full-frame mirrorless EOS camera with built-in In-Body Image Stabiliser with up to -8 steps pairing with the new RF lenses with IS.
SPEED
Same like the EOS R5, when shooting with the electronic shutter with EOS R6, the high-speed continuous shooting of up to about 20 FPS with AF/AE tracking is achievable and when shooting with mechanical shutter/electronic front curtain, high-speed continuous shooting is up to approximately 12 FPS. This camera can handle action photography with ease.
AUTOFOCUS
AF performance is improved with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, when Face + Tracking priority AF is set, the AF area covers almost the entire sensor with up to 5940 focus points. When you prefer manual AF selection, especially when shooting still images, the AF frame is automatically selected from a maximum of 1053 divided areas. The AF supports detection of human eyes, faces and heads, improvements from the EOS R. On top of that, it can detect the eyes, face and whole body of animals (dogs/cats/birds) to improve the capture rate of subjects.
HIGH ISO
The CMOS sensor reduces noise and the image engine improves noise reduction performance, achieving a standard ISO sensitivity of up to 102400 (expandable to 204,800) when shooting still images. The low brightness focusing limit of EV-6.5 is achieved. Achieves highly accurate focusing even in a dark environment where it is difficult for the naked eye to see the subject.
FAST DATA TRANSFER
The EOS R6 is built with dual SD memory card (UHS-II compatible) slots. It supports Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connection to mobile devices such as smartphones. It also supports FTP and FTPS, or use the Image.Canon site to upload your images with no size limit fo up to 30 days.

Other STUFF you may need
- The built-in high-definition EVF with a field-of-view rate of about 100% at about 3.69 million dots.
- Dust-proof/drip-proof structure is used to prevent water droplets and sand dust from entering the camera. In addition, a highly rigid magnesium alloy body that achieves both robustness and lightweight ensures high reliability.
- Vari-angle touch screen LCD Panel.
- Improved LPE6NH battery with 15% more battery power.
This could be sort of an upgrade (minus the pixel count) of the features of the original EOS R launched almost two years ago, but it’s still a different class on its own. The proper review is incoming when we got our hands on it. Stay tuned.
The Canon EOS R6 expected to ship in September with RM11,999 for the body. Contact Canon Malaysia for more information.
