Precision audio meets blazing-fast storage: Sony’s latest tools empower filmmakers and content creators with high-end sound and efficient workflow.

Sony has announced two powerful new tools designed to elevate the workflows of filmmakers, video professionals, and content creators—the ECM-778 premium shotgun microphone and a new range of high-speed, high-capacity CFexpress Type A memory cards, including the MRW-G3 card reader.
ECM-778: Compact Shotgun Microphone with High-Resolution Audio Capture
Engineered for applications like filmmaking, documentaries, and drama production, the new Sony ECM-778 is a flagship mono shotgun microphone that delivers outstanding high-resolution audio with professional-grade clarity. Despite its compact 176mm length and featherlight 102g weight, the ECM-778 offers sharp forward directivity and a robust construction that adapts to diverse recording scenarios.

Key Highlights:
- Cinematic Sound Quality: A newly developed microphone capsule, brass acoustic tube, and precision-engineered circuitry work together to deliver spacious highs and stable mid-lows, even capturing frequencies beyond 20 kHz.
- Superior Directionality: Acoustic interference technology helps the microphone focus tightly on the subject, rejecting noise from the sides and rear.
- Versatile Recording Options: Can be used with boom poles, external recorders, and cameras equipped with XLR inputs, such as Sony’s Cinema Line and Alpha series.
- Reliable and Durable: Built with a machined aluminum body, low-cut filter, and two included wind screens (foam and fur), ensuring adaptability for both indoor and outdoor use.
- Professional Input: Developed in collaboration with experienced film sound engineers, including Japan Academy Prize winner Kenichi Fujimoto.
Fujimoto commented, “The ECM-778 is the new axis for cinematic sound. Its clarity, balance, and compact design make it the best mic I’ve ever used for dialogue.”

New CFexpress Type A Cards and MRW-G3 Card Reader: Speed Meets Endurance
To complement professional video workflows, Sony has also introduced the CEA-G1920T (1920GB) and CEA-G960T (960GB) CFexpress Type A memory cards, built for use with Cinema Line and Alpha cameras. These cards are CFexpress 4.0 compatible and achieve blazing-fast read speeds of up to 1800 MB/s—over double the speed of previous models—along with write speeds up to 1700 MB/s.
Paired with the MRW-G3 CFexpress Type A card reader, data transfer and backup tasks become drastically faster and more efficient, reducing downtime in post-production.
CFexpress Card Features:
- Ultra-Fast Performance: Supports VPG400 standard, ensuring stable 400MB/s video capture, ideal for long-duration 4K and high-speed shooting.
- Robust Build: Designed to the TOUGH spec—up to 5x drop resistance and 10x bend strength compared to standard CFexpress cards, plus IP57 water and dust resistance.
- Reliable Across Devices: Works with cameras, PCs, tablets, and smartphones; heat-dissipation design supports extended transfers of large files.

With these launches, Sony continues to empower both professionals and high-end amateurs with tools that enhance production quality and streamline workflows across a variety of challenging environments.
Sony is also committed to environmental consciousness and accessibility. The camera body incorporates recycled materials, reducing its environmental impact without compromising functionality. Moreover, it comes with a Screen Reader function, assisting users with menus and video playback by reading them aloud, making it more accessible for a diverse range of creators.

As for the ECM-M1 shotgun microphone, it is a world-first with eight dial-selectable audio recording modes, including stereo. It captures targeted sound from the front and suppresses other surrounding sounds effectively, making it ideal for interviews and selfie-oriented scenarios. The microphone’s noise reduction utilities ensure top-notch audio quality, reducing the need for complex post-processing.
