Large-aperture ultra-wide-angle Sony G lens introduced – FE 20mm F1.8 G

In the labour room last night, Sony gave birth to a new kid to add into its expanding FE lens family, and this lens comes with large-aperture and is ultra-wide-angle fixed glass at 20mm – the FE 20mm F1.8 G.

With the characteristic of excellent G Lens resolution and bokeh, the FE 20mm F1.8 G is a compact, lightweight, ultra-wide prime and is so far the widest full-frame prime lens in the E-mount line-up. Sony full framers now have another choice to use this lens to shoot stunning landscapes and starscapes as well as capturing impressive video.

The 20mm lens was designed with incorporating the features of two AA (advanced aspherical) elements, three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements for the effective suppression of chromatic aberration and delivery of high corner-to-corner image quality even at the maximum aperture F1.8. With the new design, this lens could shoot excellent close-up with a minimum focus distance of 0.19 metres.

The FE 20mm F1.8 G weighs only 373g, it’s small size and lightweight and make a perfect match when it is attached to the current A7/A9 series or the A5000/A6000 series. Its compactness and high portability make it a perfect lens for the street shoot. Focusing is fast and quiet with the implementation of two XD (extreme dynamic) for both stills and video shooting.

On the functionality, the FE 20mm F1.8 G was designed with a customisable focus hold button and an aperture ring with a click on/off switch. The filter diameter is 67mm and this lens is also dust and moisture-proof.
